After not painting for a spell, it’s always good for me to go back to the basics which in this case, meant basic geometric shapes where I focused on values for a small 7 x 5″ study. This puts me in a better frame of mind when it comes time for landscapes. If you’ve read my previous posts you’ll remember how important value is over color. With this painting, I chose form and value over hue, there was no need to portray a ready to be picked orange nor a super white egg. The values I mixed said enough to describe what is there. Keeping a limited palette was important too, because it’s one less distraction to contend with. What techniques do you use when you’ve let time get away from you and haven’t painted? Thanks for looking — happy painting!
